Can RFID tags be rewritten? How many read/write cycles?

RFID tags can be rewritten, but the specific read/write capability depends on the type of tag chip. RFID tags are mainly divided into three categories based on read/write method:
(1) Read Only (RO): The tag information is permanently written into the chip at the factory and users cannot modify it. This type of tag has 0 write cycles, data can be stored permanently, and can be read unlimited times. It is suitable for scenarios that only require a unique identifier, such as animal ear tags, anti-counterfeiting traceability, etc.
(2) Write Once Read Many (WORM): Users can write information once. After writing, it cannot be changed but can be read unlimited times. The write cycle is 1, and data retention is permanent. For example, the klw-2005X-s model UHF tag chip from Sichuan Kailuwei is this type of chip, suitable for asset registration, important item traceability, and other scenarios requiring fixed information and tamper prevention.
(3) Read Write (RW): Users can write and modify tag information multiple times. Write cycles can reach 100,000 to 1 billion times, with data retention of 10 to 50 years. Even after reaching the write limit, the tag can still be read normally. It is suitable for scenarios requiring repeated information updates and offline information transfer, such as production process tracking, warehouse turnover, reusable containers, logistics pallets, full lifecycle traceability of goods, cross-border logistics, cross-border e-commerce, etc. The storage capacity of different chips also varies. UHF tags generally have relatively small storage capacity, ranging from 96bit to 2048bit, such as Impinj's M730, Monza M4e, NXP's Ucode8, Ucode 9, Kunrui's Qstar-7U, etc. HF tags generally have larger storage capacity, ranging from 512bit to 128Kbit, such as Fudan Microelectronics' FM11RF08, NXP's Desfire 41, D81, etc.
