Smart Community Electric Bicycle RFID Anti-Theft Management Solution

I. Project Background

   In recent years, electric bicycles are everywhere on the road. Compared to bicycles, they are easier and faster; compared to cars, they offer more freedom and are more environmentally friendly, not affected by traffic jams; compared to motorcycles, they are more suitable for the general public and easier to operate. These advantages make them very popular, but theft incidents have also occurred frequently. Currently, regulations for electric bicycle management are not yet complete, and most are not registered and licensed. Once stolen, it is difficult to recover, and recovered stolen vehicles are hard to identify owners. Anti-theft management for electric bicycles urgently needs improvement.

   Currently, common anti-theft devices on the market are remote-controlled anti-theft alarms with high sensitivity, with alarm sounds reaching over 100 decibels, but also high false alarm rates—wind, thunder, children playing, etc. can trigger alarms, causing serious noise pollution and disturbing residents. As a result, most users do not turn on the anti-theft device, giving criminals an opportunity.

   GPS positioning anti-theft alarm method is costly. If the government invests financially, it would be too expensive and not suitable for promotion. There are reports that a city invested over 10 million to install them for free on 50,000 electric bicycles, resulting in low cost-effectiveness, and subsequent monthly GPRS data fees are required. Relatively speaking, the "Electric Bicycle Anti-Theft Management System" using IoT technology is sufficiently mature. The cost of an RFID anti-theft system is relatively cheap compared to the cost of electric bicycles or other valuables, making it easily accepted by the public and has broad development prospects.

II. Solution Introduction

This solution adopts advanced RFID ultra-low-power technology, robust and durable, waterproof, with a lifespan of over 3 years. It has a globally unique RFID code, and the chip stores device status information, communicating bidirectionally with the matching FineJoin long-range reader.

This solution not only has conventional data collection, transmission, and bidirectional communication functions, but can also self-diagnose stolen vehicles in real time and send alarm signals without requiring system software for data processing, making it more suitable for remote, independent areas that cannot connect to the system network.

The "Electric Bicycle Anti-Theft Management System" consists of two main parts:

  • Community Level: Taking the community as a unit, install long-range readers at entrances and exits to collect data and alarm for theft of electric bicycles entering and exiting, allowing security guards to promptly detect and handle issues.
  • Social Expansion: Expand to every street and road. Install long-range readers at intersections, large supermarket entrances, hospitals, farmers markets, and other areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Connect with social surveillance systems, the "3.20" project, and the "110" command center for real-time comparison and recording of the operation status and trajectory information of social electric bicycles, providing detailed clues for investigation and case solving.

Technical Requirements

Adopt RFID technology, including electronic tags, readers, and supporting computers and network equipment. Each monitoring point must be connected to the police network to obtain shared vehicle data and perform stolen vehicle comparison.

Electronic Tags

Each vehicle is equipped with two active RFID electronic tags: one installed on the electric bicycle, and one carried by the owner. When a new vehicle is registered, the tags are installed directly at the registration point.

Fixed Readers and Handheld Readers

When an electric bicycle passes by, the tag information is obtained and intelligently compared with multiple tags. If a stolen vehicle is detected, alarm information is generated and sent to the system service platform in time.

Matching Alarm Function

  1. When an electric bicycle passes, if the system cannot correctly match the tag information inside the vehicle with the tag carried by the owner, an alarm signal is uploaded.
  2. When an electric bicycle passes, if the tag information inside the vehicle matches correctly with the tag carried by the owner, normal data information is uploaded.
  3. When no vehicle passes, only the tag carried by the owner passes, only the passing time of this tag is recorded.

Stolen Vehicle Comparison Alarm Requirement

After the reader obtains the tag information of the electric bicycle, the system compares it with the stolen electric bicycle database via the connected police network. If the passing vehicle is found to be stolen, it prompts that this vehicle is abnormal and requires detailed verification.

III. Operational Effectiveness of This Solution

  1. Improved Manageability: Dual-tag associated identification, vehicle information system management, and real-name information greatly improve the manageability of electric vehicles.
  2. Reduced Management Costs: Higher efficiency and more controllable single-vehicle anti-theft measures greatly reduce the probability of theft and improve overall security.
  3. Comprehensive Collection of Vehicle Information, Transforming "Traditional" Management into "Intelligent" Management: The vehicle information collected and recorded by the on-board tag gives electric vehicles an information-based identity, making them an important target for basic information collection by community police, effectively strengthening daily management of electric vehicles.
  4. Real-Time Monitoring of Vehicle Trajectories, Transforming "Static" Anti-Theft into "Dynamic" Anti-Theft: When an electric vehicle in illegal status passes through the identification area, the system judges the alarm information and links with the police command system to direct police searches in real time based on movement trajectories; it can also link with the police surveillance system to capture images of the vehicle and obtain image data of the driver, providing clues for investigation and case solving.
  5. Effectively Increasing Vehicle Safety Factor, Transforming "Limited" Protection into "Real-Time" Protection: The anti-theft system is also equipped with portable handheld devices for police and security personnel to conduct dynamic inspections, used to detect whether suspicious vehicles are present nearby. When a suspicious target appears, the handheld device will alarm, and security personnel can identify suspicious vehicles by the displayed distance and characteristics.
