Deep into eight industry scenarios, providing end-to-end RFID solutions

Vehicle Management Application Solution Based on RFID Radio Frequency Identification Technology

Background

This solution is a long-range intelligent vehicle management system based on RFID technology, applicable to parking lots, residential communities, bus fleets, and transport vehicle dispatch management.

The system performs "contactless information collection and processing" on moving targets, enabling automatic vehicle identification and management. When used for parking fee collection and access control, drivers can enter and exit without stopping—the system automatically identifies the cardholder and decides whether to grant passage.

Government agencies and high-end residential communities particularly benefit; the system improves traffic efficiency, security, and facility image. It can read and manage vehicles traveling at speeds up to 60 km/h (UHF readers support up to 120 km/h).

Management aspects include:

  • Vehicle registration
  • Daily entry/exit management
  • Temporary vehicle management
  • Parking fee collection
  • Traffic management

Managed objects:

  • Transport vehicles
  • Office vehicles, etc.

System Architecture

The system consists of entry reader, controller equipment, entry barrier gate, exit reader, exit barrier gate, and charging/monitoring management center. The single-entry single-exit configuration structure is as follows:

系统架构图

The entire management system consists of4 components:

(1) Electronic identification tag (electronic license plate)

Passive electronic RFID card operating at 860-927 MHz with 256-bit storage capacity. Stores vehicle model, license plate number, and owner information. Depending on installation location, it can be packaged as a transparent glass tag (for windshield) or a metal tag (for roof/side) to enhance communication.

(2) RFID long-range reader

A device with microwave circuitry that establishes directional high-frequency microwave communication with the identification tag. Strong anti-interference capability and fast communication speed. For example, the FineJoin UHF reader is specially developed for vehicle management, with a read range of 8 meters and support for vehicle speeds up to 120 km/h.

(3) Communication processing microprocessor

Interprets identification tag information and transmits it to the lane controller, retrieving vehicle data for processing. It can also modify tag data based on lane controller data analysis.

(4) Lane controller

Determines whether the passing vehicle has access permission, verifies card validity, activates traffic signs or opens barrier gates, and can issue warnings to the driver.

Solution Overview

System Functions

1. Entry Control Functions

  • Identity verification:Determines whether the card-carrying vehicle has entry permission
  • Temporary card issuance:Automatically issues temporary parking cards for unregistered vehicles; card issuance modes include button with vehicle, button without vehicle, and computer-based issuance; card is automatically retracted if not taken within 20 seconds
  • Monthly card automatic identification:RFID reader automatically reads the vehicle tag, transmits monthly card information to the backend, and after verification opens the barrier gate automatically—unauthorized cards are denied entry, no manual intervention required
  • Information recording:Automatically records entry time, location, vehicle information, and owner identity when reading the card
  • Image capture:Captures vehicle images synchronously with gate opening commands and stores them in the database for exit verification
  • License plate recognition:Automatically extracts the license plate number as the unique entry identifier for exit comparison and future inquiries
  • Full display:When parking spaces are full, LED display notifies incoming vehicles and disables button card issuance (retains computer-based issuance for special situations)
  • Zone guidance:Guides vehicles to areas with available spaces; precise space guidance in large parking lots saves time and effort
  • Information display:High-brightness LED display clearly visible under outdoor sunlight; bilingual in Chinese and English; concise information
  • Voice prompts:Clear simulated human voice; pluggable digital voice module for easy integration and upgrade; large capacity to store multiple prompt messages
  • In-lot monitoring:Monitors parking status in each zone and individual spaces

2. Exit Control Functions

  • Automatic billing:Calculates parking duration and fee based on entry/exit time; rates easily defined in management software and downloaded to controller; billing accuracy to the second, minimum billing unit to "jiao" (0.1 yuan)
  • Monthly card automatic identification:RFID reader automatically reads tag, verifies monthly card information with backend, and automatically opens barrier gate—no manual intervention
  • Vehicle confirmation:Displays vehicle information when reading card to confirm consistency between entry and exit vehicles
  • Image comparison:Captures exit vehicle image and automatically retrieves entry image for side-by-side comparison, enhancing anti-theft capability and enabling accurate post-event investigation
  • License plate recognition:Automatically extracts exit license plate number and compares with entry record for quick automatic confirmation of same vehicle entry/exit
  • Temporary card retrieval:Besides manual retrieval, exit controller can be equipped with a card retraction machine to automatically retrieve temporary cards
  • Information display:High-brightness bilingual LED display, visible outdoors; concise information
  • Voice prompts:Same functionality as entry voice system
  • Accurate differentiation ofOwn vehicles, external vehicles, and special vehicles

3. Central Control and Management Functions

  • IC/ID card management:Handles card authorization issuance, data modification, loss reporting/unreporting, card return, and card clearing; supports up to 10,000 blacklisted cards; maximum card capacity 2^32-1
  • General query:Single or multi-condition queries on parking usage, card usage, and vehicle entry/exit records; generates reports or electronic reports in customer-specified formats for use by other systems
  • Statistical management:Various statistics output in different report formats; any query can be output with a report
  • Equipment monitoring and management:Controls barrier gate open/close/stop and card dispenser; real-time detection of barrier gate, card dispenser (including card quantity), and vehicle detector status, displayed vividly
  • System settings:Simple mouse-click configuration, including image comparison on/off, data retention time, authorized card issuance device selection, billing method, and full display notification on/off

FAQ

In smart manufacturing, RFID is used for process tracking, tool management and production error-proofing. Fuen's HF and LF industrial readers are installed at production stations to read tags on trays and carriers in real time, automatically recording process steps and verifying parameters to prevent wrong material or sequence. Typical applications include PV ingot factory process management, automotive body tracking and non-standard automated inspection lines.
RFID enables automatic inbound registration, outbound verification and real-time inventory. Fuen's UHF readers with gate portals (G15) batch-read tags as goods pass through without individual scanning. Combined with forklift retrofit solutions, location updates are completed during handling. Fuen has successfully implemented forklift RFID retrofit projects for Shen International Logistics Port, improving inbound efficiency by over 60%.
RFID upgrades manual one-by-one verification to batch automatic inventory, significantly reducing missed inspection rates and labor costs. Fuen's mobile engineering vehicle tool management solution uses handheld terminals for full-vehicle inventory in one scan — 10 seconds versus 1 hour manually. In power grid asset lifecycle management, RFID tags attached to equipment enable full-process tracking from procurement to deployment to retirement.
RFID anti-counterfeiting uses encrypted electronic tags on products combined with backend databases for item-level full-chain traceability. Fuen's fragile anti-transfer tag (UT203) is destroyed once removed, preventing tag reuse. Typical applications include live pig supply chain tracing and pharmaceutical anti-counterfeiting systems, providing full visibility from production through distribution to end consumption.
RFID enables rapid receiving, smart inventory and anti-theft management in chain retail. Handheld terminals batch-scan inbound goods, completing full-store inventory in minutes. Fuen's clothing store solution combines HF tags and UHF handhelds for full-chain visibility from distribution center to store shelf, improving inventory accuracy to over 99%.
RFID in smart cities mainly applies to vehicle management and public safety. Fuen's intelligent vehicle positioning and speed measurement system uses active tags for long-range identification and speed detection; e-bike anti-theft solutions track tagged vehicles via intersection readers for rapid recovery; parking management enables non-stop passage and automatic billing. These solutions are deployed in multiple cities.
